I also noticed you listed pilot base states. You can list your preferences, however I know LOTS of pilots that didn't get their first choice (and many who got their last choice). All the bases are in smaller communities, but different ones are near different big cities (near being 2 hours or less). I often hear (but can not attest to its truth) that people that get stationed here (like Instructor pilots) say, "well, at least it is not Del Rio!"

If it is for UPT, then you'll be there probably a year an a half. Anywhere should be tolerable that long. If you want more info on Columbus, just ask.

Is your hubby going to OTS to be a pilot? I noticed all the states you put were for UPT training. After OTS we went to Vance AFB in Oklahoma. The pilot training bases are small, but nice. They just built a ton of new houses on base at Vance. We moved from there in May. Vance is in the town of Enid and it is a great community. Everyone is very friendly there, but not much for a place to shop. The good thing is OKC is only 1 hour 20 minutes away. You can definitely have family come on base even friends. You just need to sponsor them and get your family a pass if they are staying with you. Good luck with everything!

I currently live at laughlin AFB in Texas, It's not a bad place, but it's 3 hours from San Antonio. What is your husband wanting to do after OTS?

Hi,
I have always done the footwork when it comes to bases on Air Force Crossroads. You should be able to set up a log in and from there you can access all the bases US and overseas. It will give you the basics and the from there there are often links to other sites describing the area. It sounds like the same bases we could choose between. If that is the case
I think from the three you have mentioned Mississippi Columbus AFB is the one closest to a big city. The other ones are a bit secluded.
Let me know if you think it's the same bases and I'll gladly share what I have found out.

Good Luck

Oh thank you, I had heard that you couldn't and it was hard to swallow; you can't have family on base??? loool it seemed a bit odd. Well we will only be on base for about a year and I will be working out of home, I just don't know which ones I should suggest, or how to narrow my choices, I like to be near the bigger cities (if possible) but the housing is the most important since I will be home most of the day.
I'm from Miami, FL and i like the bases where everything is around the corner no long drives, so i know what you are looking for. Plenty of the military sites will give you local information, so you can see what the cities around the base have to offer. So if you like Ft.Hood go to their website and take a peek at their local communities.
They have no issues with visitors on post, but some on post contractors do ask if they stay more than 30 days to notify the housing office.

Check this website to see housing: https://onestop.army.mil/

I lived on post at Ft. Hood, TX. I loved the house. But we were enlisted then, so I don't know much about the O-1 housing. I'm not sure if they've got any of the new housing yet or the older stuff. I do know that they're building like crazy there now, though.

I have not been at any of the bases below, but most bases have housing websites so you can see pictures of the base housing you want to look for housing for O-1. We currently live on base in Nevada and have for 9 years and we have had no problems.

You can absolutely have visitors to base housing, the most you will need to do is get them a pass for the gate which only requires a drivers license and for them to sign if you are driving and car insurance and registration if they are driving.

Hi ladies, my hubby and I were talking about all the bases he will need to go to after OTS, OKC, MISS, TX. We currently live in Orlando, FL and I have not been to any of these states before, what are your thoughts about on base living at the above mentioned. Also when you're on base can you have visitors? My parents are Canadian and when they come to visit they stay for couple of weeks, how does that work??
