Well I"m still around : )
Been here at Columbus now for almost 2 years! (that's from OTS grad to UPT grad, long time!)
I'll be here another 3 since we FAIPed (First Assignment Instructor Pilot).
Here's a thread for Columbus: portal/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=2415

There are some for other bases int he same section as well. Good luck on your new journey!

We are doing UPT as well, my husband is at Maxwell right now. We are already at our follow on which is Laughlin. My husband is considering ENJJPT too, but I am not sure what he is going to decide. We have talked so much about it. I guess time will show.

Well no one has been on this thread in a couple years but I was going to see if there any other families on here that are going to UPT. My husband is prior service and at BOT right now. Our orders for UPT at to Columbus, but we are debating about putting in for ENJJPT and seeing what happens. Our 2 girls and I are still at GFAFB and will outprocess the end of March. Hope to see some more people on here!

Looks like most of you haven't been on this thread for a while. I started a new thread, but no one answered it. Please take a look - it is about post-UPT training.

We wish you were coming to Columbus Erica! Does your DH know what he will be training to do yet?

Traci,
Just a warning not to move to Columbus too quicky: DH from 07-07 had a pilot slot, finished OTS, and then went to the final flight physical at Brooks in Texas (last week.) There, he didn't pass the color vision test... so, he can't go to UPT & the AF is going to re-train him. So, instead of Columbus, we're going to Brooks. As it is, his car is at Columbus & all of our stuff is on a moving truck headed that way. If we had waited a little longer, some of these headaches could have been avoided. Advice in short: wait until as many variables are set in stone before you do anything major, like moving! :)

You can't change that with my-pay. You can change an allotment but this is how it worked for me when I PCS'd to Hawaii I went to the housing office the privatized side and they submited the BAH paperwork to finance and that amount was deducted every month from my check because your BAH amount will change once your husband gets to Columbus oh and you might not be offered officer housing until he graduates from OTS. Like I said I would call and have all my ducks set up I know how hard it is to PCS alone with one kid and I was active duty and had hard enough time I can't imagine 2 babies and not having the sponsor there to help might be tough. If you sell your house you could take your BAH and stay in Montgomery BAH for Langley I'm sure is pretty decent.
Thanks! I think DH is trying to call today and see what we would be able to do. I may take Beth's suggestion and just stay in AL for a few weeks. I thought Columbus was closer to Maxwell for some reason so I don't want to make that drive every weekend with the babies.

When my house sold and I had to be out 3 weeks before the end of OTS I stayed in AL in an extended stay hotel so that is an option. It ended up being about the same amount as our BAH for Houston and I got to spend the weekends and evenings of the last week with my DH. It is definately an option.

I am going to have DH call tomorrow. I have his orders to Columbus and a power of attorney but I have no idea how it works with privatization. He said he can change the BAH online with his mypay stuff since he is prior enlisted.

Yeah I would call 1st I don't know how Columbus works but at Hickam you signed a lease and you had to set up an allotment for your BAH that might be difficult since your husband won't be signed into the base. I would start working the details now.

Post by TaraJoelle » Sun Sep 30, 2007 8:09 pm

will they give you a house early? I don't know how it is now that it went privatized but before I tried to do that and they wouldn't let me, they said not until he was assigned here! i dunno!

DH and I talked about it and I think we will be moving on base. I actually may be moving to Columbus in November before DH finishes OTS. We had a great offer on our house and they want to close at the end of October plus I want to have a house to spend Thanksgiving in!

Post by eakins » Tue Sep 25, 2007 1:59 pm

I like it on base, but I'm sure you could find something reasonable off if you wanted it.

Post by afotswife » Tue Sep 25, 2007 1:14 pm

I just realized I posted this on this thread instead of the Columbus AFB thread. I was tired last night. Thanks for answering though! DH and I are deciding on whether or not we want to live on base. I think I am going to move there in a month or so before DH finishes OTS so we will have a house already when he graduates (the day before Thanksgiving).
