okay ladies!

I leave NC at 6am on Saturday. I'll hopefully be in Columbus by 3:30. With the dog and the cat, I'm thinking a 30 minute walk for lunch will be a must.

I'm a bit nervous, but really really excited too :D

I am so happy for you Michelle!!! Please let me know when you arrive as I would love to meet you in person.

Oh! My husband has been so worried he won't get to see me, like BCT. It's incredibly encouraging to see that you've had so much time with them. I hope I experience the same :)

You're right Heather- I forget that anything I don't bring I can just buy. I probably really will just bring bare minimums since it will be furnished! That would be much easier!

:) I'll hopefully get there on the 5th or 4th of June. I can't wait!

I would love to meet you ladies. Please PM me when and where.

good luck!

Wishing you guys the best as you move to Benning! We have been here since hubby classes up in March, he will graduate later this month. It goes by fast! I have loved getting to be here during OCS-- def has been worth the move! We see him almost every night and for a few days on the weekend! What company are your husbands in? I check Facebook more, but would love to meet up!

Hello ladies,

I am staying on post and would love to meet you ladies. Just let me know what works for you ladies. I brought some of our clothes, toiletries, two camping chairs, pots and pans, a toaster oven and some rugs. I purchased a TV, futon, a microwave and air mattress at the PX. (we didn't have these to bring to me) That's about all I have as furnishings. If you forget to bring something you can always go to the PX and get it. In most cases you will not forget anything big it will be something little. I hope that helps. Oh, bring dress pants and a few polos and a shirt and tie for your hubby. They need these items for some community events they are do for OCS.

Heather

Sooo... What should I bring? tv? Anything anyone forgot for a three month move that you really regretted?

I'm so worried between trying to pack his OCS list and the rest of our things (diabetic cat, dog, crate, research, Ahhh!!)

Hi packGirl---

Yes, I would love to meet up when you get here! Let me know if I can answer any other questions about IP or if you want me to email you pictures, etc. I would love to do so! And this is close to base. The area around here is not the greatest just to let you know but where the apartment is located its nice. Good luck! My move was the best thing we decided to do!

Anyone else with questions about the area please let me know I know a little bit of my way around here and work in Phenix City AL so I will help as much as I can!

Thanks so much :) I'm in the process of trying to sign the lease now. They say that they want to put me in 622, is that close to you? I thought it might be close to some riff raff. I lived in Fayetteville (right outside of Ft. Bragg NC) for most of my life, so I'm used to the area outside of the gates. I just want him to be able to see me if he gets a pass, and see me quick!

I do wonder if they have built in security systems? I have a dog, so really I have my own little body guard, but it would be nice :)

I'd love for you to send me pics! I'll pm you!

Hi Ladies!

I have been reading your posts and thought I would give you my two cents! :) ...

If you have any questions on Columbus let me know! I have been here about a month.

I also found a great group on Meetup.com
It is for Fort Benning wives and girlfriends. Its all women who are new to the area and in the same boat. I have met some great women on it, it's nice to relate to other people in my situation :) They have different meetups from Margarita Nights to kids playdates to Bingo
Thanks so much! I can't wait to begin. I'm budgeting as I write this and am hoping.... hoping hoping hoping that we're the lucky ones with finance and everything goes into the bank smoothly Friday! If it does, I will be one happy lady and so Ready to Move! :D

Hi Ladies!

I have been reading your posts and thought I would give you my two cents! :)

My SO graduated from OCS on March 18. Graduation weekend we looked at places to live around Columbus. There are 12 Greystone properties around Columbus, some are nicer than others. We decided to go with Greystone Farms Reserve. We LOVE IT!!! They are only a year and a half old... I feel totally safe here which was huge. They don't have the typical apartment feel. Our One bedroom is almost 1200 sqaure feet, it has a sunroom which is like a second bedroom, black appliances, crown molding etc...
You may also want to try Greystone Summit. They are nice also. They are about 20min from base but the drive is easy and North Columbus is pretty new and nice.

I have heard good things about Independance. They rent by the room and are basically one square living area with bedrooms in each corner.

I haven't heard great things about Whisperwood. I hear that some of their apartments are nicer than others and it can be a bit of a Party Complex.

We did find out that there is a wait for apartments in the nicer complexes. I would definitely put your name on their waiting list sooner than later, especially for one bedrooms. Let me know if any of you decide to go with Greystone!! :)

If you have any questions on Columbus let me know! I have been here about a month.

They say they're right by the sand hill gates. And I heard from a friend, who had a friend live there that if you don't have your dcal for the car on base, then you have to go all the way around the backside (the long way). So if that's any indication, it should be right where they say it is.

Post by tamijoy » Wed Apr 28, 2010 7:09 pm

So, am I correct to assume the Independence apartments are right off base? That's what they say. The Greystone are 15-20 mins away? We were debating living on post, but the expense to move just the basics from AZ would be HUGE (almost 2K with Uhaul) - and not to mention I ALONE would have to move everything.... Yea, probably not happening! So, it's more cost effective for us to collect BAH for AZ and live in a fully furnished place there and let the Army move us later. That way I only have to move every toy known to mankind  across the country. We have gone back and forth on whether my son and I should just stay here with my parents for the three months, but my son would really miss daddy. I know that's something he will have to deal with in the future, but we'd like to avoid that when we have a choice :) We will just have to follow daddy around
